Hi All,
I'm newbie on EV world and got my iX1 in December last year and so far already done 500miles.
Can anyone here share their charging experience especially if you don't have home charger please?

i feel that overall I'm spending more on charging compare to petrol when I was using Honda CRV before, I thought I would spend less as electric should be cheaper?

am I doing something wrong or it is a common knowledge that unless you do home charging, then generally it is expensive to charge out of home?

or can you suggest any alternative where they are cheaper than any other place?

thanks a lot
Cheers,
Siena

The BMW charging app will show what chargers are nearby and if you select one it should tell you the cost including any connection fees. Many of the bigger companies have subscriptions you can sign up for which if used enough can work out for you but only if you use it regularily. You can sub to Ionity and BP Pulse via the BMW charging app.

Zapp Map is also a well used app but can’t say I use it as charge from home almost all of the time. Fast charging is attractive but you will pay for that, Look for what people call destination chargers 7 or 22 kw AC which will take a lot longer but you will have to decide. If that works for you. It’s a lot to take in at first but worth

Uk YouTubers such as EV Man and Dave Takes it on explain pretty much everything. The latter covers who charges what more often although there are a lot more. You are operating in winter so you will see big difference when it warms up. You also need to get used to EV driving style and regen. Do you use B mode in town and stop start driving. I didn’t like it at first as it’s so strong when you lift off but now love the one pedal driving.

I charge from home mostly and you are spot on that it’s massively cheaper.

Unfortunately it's a fact in the UK that public charging is often more expensive than Dino juice. But you can get subscriptions on charging networks which reduce the cost, the Tesla network is probably the cheapest rapid charging network. If you are an Octopus customer you can sign up for Electroverse and get a discount on various charging networks.

Alternatively some owners will rent out their own EVSE on various apps, e.g. https://co-charger.com/map/ if there's one near you that could be useful.
